While renovating and decorating the house we purchased in 2010, I fell in love with interior design. Our Chicago home was built in 1891, so it took a lot of experimentation and creativity to make it work for our family of five. I hope you'll enjoy the results as much as we do. This room has lovely high ceilings but zero architectural interest, despite our home being over 120 years old. We added the wood beams to bring in some warmth and character, painted the walls a warm white (Alabaster by Sherwin Williams) and my amazing husband made me the wood horse that hangs over the sofa.

Let's be real. The only thing cute in here is the dog. The paint color that looked so serene in our last apartment was just sad here. Womp womp.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

White walls (Alabaster by SW) and white linen curtains helped brighten up the room. I also pared down the furniture so we could seat six for dinner.

I think most people have their TV too high. I love a TV that's eye level when you're sitting on the sofa. I incorporated ours into a gallery art wall so it blends in better. The chair is Jayson, the wood planter is vintage from the 70s.
